Lots of Stuff

I set up the light box again, so here are pics of a bunch of things I've been meaning to get to.

This is a knitted scarf I did in December. I'm particularly pleased with it because it's one of the first times I've improvised something just because I wanted it. In this case, I needed a black scarf to go with an outfit for an Xmas party. I can wrap this around my neck a couple of times and still have enough length to knot it. It took me about 1 day to do:

And here are the better pics of the fez-wearing monkey amigurumi:

And improved grim reaper amigurumi pics. I still need to figure out the scythe, though:

And something new - a baby penguin! Addicted to amigurumi? Maybe. This one is for J.:

By the way, I thought the penguin eyes were blue, but be damned if they aren't green. I double-checked the yarn label and got M. to look at it too. Huh. I never have been all that good at telling green from blue.

And last, a crocheted dice bag I improvised for myself. I admit, there's a ball of yarn in there along with the dice just to show the shape:

Remind me not to let these stack up again...

BIG Knitting

Here we have a dude knitting with super big needles on something like rope: link.

And here we have big-ass knitting that could be used as furniture: link.

And here's a video of a couple of chicks (don't worry, it's not that video) knitting 1,000 strands of yarn in various colors on super big needles. This one's very cool: link.

Man, knitting like that last one looks like exercise!

Monkey with Fez & Grim Reaper

Pics aren't of the best quality since I'm at work without my spiffy light box, but here they are. The reaper still needs a scythe and the monkey's vest is a bit too big, but other than that I'm utterly delighted with these.

I'll get technical details up on Ravelry soon, and maybe replace these with better pics.

AmiCthulhu

Apparently, I can't stop making these things. Here's a baby Cthulhu I made for M. - cute, cute, cute!

By the way, these are the first pics I've tried taking with the cool light box A. gave me for Xmas. :-)

Miami Projects

This year I took crochet projects to Miami instead of knitting. I was a bit worried about getting knitting needles through since we took only carry-on luggage, but I figured I wouldn't be too upset if they made me toss a couple of plastic crochet hooks.

A. inspired me to try making amigurumi toys. The baby octopus ended up going to our seatmate on our last plane back from Miami. She was a teenager who was very, very patient during our 3.5 hour delay on the runway (arg!) and since she squealed when she saw the octopus and called it "hecka cute!" I couldn't resist giving it to her as an Xmas present.

The duckling ended up going to my mother-in-law because she asked M. to ask me if she could have it. What have I learned? Cute is irresistible. :)

And while I'm at it, here are some quick-and-dirty coasters I did. Our room in Miami didn't have coasters, so...

Xmas Slippers

Here are the slippers I did for the in-laws in Miami, and the ones for A. Good stuff.
